Maryland victim dies in meningitis outbreak

Another person has died — this time in Maryland — in the national outbreak of fungal meningitis, while two more Tennesseans were diagnosed with fungal infections linked to tainted spinal steroids, according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The number of Tennessee patients infected now stands at 150, according to the CDC report issued Monday. The two new cases were reported in the last six days.
The number of deaths in Tennessee remained at 14, the highest in the country. Michigan has reported more cases at 250, up by four from last week. Deaths in Michigan remain at 13.
Overall, the number of infections from the outbreak nationwide jumped by seven to 714, and the number of deaths jumped by one to 48. The new death in Maryland brings the number there to three.
